Is 9mm Defensive Ammo Cheap vs Typical?
The 9mm hub's floor versus typical is one lane. It does not split FMJ from JHP or Federal HST from a range load. Defensive ammo usually sits above the training floor. Treat the hub stamp as the market for what it actually counted — not as a coupon on carry ammo.
One hub, two jobs
Range 9mm is full metal jacket, bought by the case, judged on cost per round. Carry 9mm is jacketed hollow point — HST, Gold Dot, and the rest — bought in small boxes, judged on whether your gun runs it and whether you trust the load. Those are not interchangeable, and they should not share a 'cheap vs typical' headline.
We do not have a separate HST or JHP market stamp. If we showed a defensive floor without that data, it would be fiction. The 9mm hub stamp is the overall lane. In practice the cheapest rows on a board like that are almost always FMJ. A JHP box that matches the FMJ floor is unusual; one that sits near typical for the whole lane may still be a fine carry buy.
