Why Ammo Shipping Is Often $20–$40
A cheap cost per round on a board can disappear in the cart. Ammo is dense, carriers treat it as extra handling or hazardous materials more often than a t-shirt, and many retailers add a fee in that tens-of-dollars band. That band is a shopper observation, not a quote from us and not Flip's published rate.
Weight first, then the fee
Ammunition is lead, copper, and brass. A case of 1,000 9mm is a serious box. Freight scales with weight, so the shipping line on a bulk order is not a padded envelope. That is true even before anyone says HAZMAT.
On top of weight, many carriers and retailers apply an extra-handling or hazardous-materials-style fee to ammunition. Shoppers commonly see that add-on in a twenty-to-forty-dollar neighborhood — sometimes less, sometimes more. We do not measure Flip's fee here, we do not scrape carrier tariffs, and we do not invent a shipping quote. Confirm the cart.
Landed cost is the only deal math
A row that looks cheap per round can lose once freight and the handling fee land. Divide the total you would actually pay by the round count. If the hub shows floor versus typical, that stamp is merchandise price, not shipped-to-your-door price.
